Mastercard (NYSE: MA) announced a strategic partnership with the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) as part of its efforts to promote the adoption of electronic payments in Sri Lanka.
Mastercard is offering a cashback reward of Rs. 100 on each bill payment over Rs. 1,000, made using a Mastercard credit or debit card issued in Sri Lanka, to CEB. Mastercard cardholders can make these payments online at www.ceb.lk and at over 11 CEB offices around the island. The cashback reward will be credited to the respective CEB accounts in the following month. This is applicable to payments made from February 01, 2019 until April 30, 2019.
General Manager, CEB, S. D. W. Gunawardana, said, “In our 50th anniversary year, as a step in the digital transformation journey, we are happy to partner with Mastercard on encouraging our customers to switch to electronic payment methods for settling their electricity bills. Offering added security and convenience to customers, these payment instruments also deliver considerable savings on costs to CEB by helping us cut down on the volume of cash we need to manage. We encourage our customers to settle their bills using their Mastercard credit and debit cards at CEB payment counters and on the CEB website www.ceb.lk and avail the rewards on offer.”
R. B. Santosh Kumar, Country Manager, Sri Lanka and Maldives, Mastercard said, “Utility bill payments are a significant recurring expense that individuals and businesses incur every month. Mastercard is delighted to partner with CEB, one of the country’s largest utility service providers, to offer Mastercard cardholders the convenience and safety of using electronic payments and also the opportunity to avail cashback rewards. Mastercard will continue to collaborate with relevant stakeholders on driving the adoption of electronic payments in Sri Lanka.”
