Gamer.LK Sets Stage for First Ever Inter-University eSports Tournament
Gamer.LK, the country’s multi-genre video gaming community powered by digital entertainment enthusiasts is taking eSports to the next level by launching the first ever competitive inter-university eSports Tournament – the Dialog University eSports Championship.

Following the immense success of the Sri Lanka Cyber Games National Championship held last year, and recognising the growth of the industry, Gamer.LK are inviting all Sri Lankan university students to participate in this exciting inaugural university championship.
“With our eSports events and community in Sri Lanka growing year on year, we at Gamer.LK thought the time was right to bring eSports to University level with the Dialog University eSports Championship. We’d like to recreate the passion and competitive nature we see at a national level and build this tournament into the next big inter-University event in Sri Lanka,” said Raveen Wijayatilake, CEO, Gamer.LK.
Scheduled to be held on the 23rd and 24th of April 2016, at the BMICH, the tournament is conducted in a knockout format. Heralded by the organisers as the country’s first ever unofficial national university eSports championship,the event is expected to add value to the gaming experience and increase the positive impact of eSports among the student community.
Points will be awarded to winners of each game title. Among the titles included in the event are Call of Duty 4, DOTA 2, FIFA 16, Mortal Kombat X, Need for Speed and Mobile games. Medals will be presented for each title, while the University with the most points/medals will be presented the coveted University eSports Championship Trophy.
An educational workshop for budding game developers or anyone interested in following gaming as a career path is planned on the 23rd of April, alongside the tournament. This will be especially helpful for University students following Computer Science, Game Design and development courses with intention of following their dreams in the game development industry.
In addition to the eSports Tournament, the event will also host a geek meet-up in partnership with PRUVE,Sri Lanka’s premier comic artist group.
This event is open to all comic fans, cosplayers and geeks and similar to last year’s Games Festival. The event will feature a Cosplay competition where Cosplayers are invited to dress up as their favourite characters on the 23rd – the best cosplayers will be presented prizes.
The unique tournament format is designed to enable gamers from all universities in the country to compete and represent their institutes.
An attractive prize pool is on offer with prizes awarded to each individual title winner.
Entry to the championships is via online registrations where students possessing a valid university identity card (ID) can register. However, student IDs will be checked on the event day.
