From the year 2017 Government has named 1st of September every as the ‘National Insurance Day’’ considering a request made by the Insurance Regulatory Commission of Sri Lanka which the regulatory body of the Insurance industry of Sri Lanka, in order to ensure the progress of the industry and well-being of the non-insured people of the country.
In the year 2019 too, to commemorate this special day which fell on the 1st of September, the Insurance Regulatory Commission of Sri Lanka organized an island wide art competition among the school children under the theme – ‘Importance of insurance for our lives and property.’ Accordingly, this competition was declared open to school children of on the 1st of September 2019. Even though it was initially decided that 30th September 2019 would be the closing date of the competition it was extended by 2 more weeks as per the requests made by numerous schools.
Sri Lanka Insurance Association (which is comprised of members of all the Insurance companies) pledged its consent to accept the paintings of this competition. As a result, the branched of Insurance companies and the Insurance Regulatory Commission of Sri Lanka received nearly 6,000 artistic creations. The competition was conducted under 4 categories;
- Grades 6 – 7
- Grades 8 – 9
- Grades 10 – 11
- Grades 12 – 13
The Ministry of Education granted the necessary approval to conduct this this competition whilst providing sponsorship for all the related activities. The winners were selected by a panel of judges appointed by the Department of Aesthetic Studies of the Ministry of Education.
Three winners were awarded Gold, Silver and Bronze prizes from each category. The Insurance Regulatory Commission of Sri Lanka had made all the arrangements to appreciate the winners with cash prizes and awards. Accordingly, 36 winners were selected out of the 4 categories.
Apart from the Gold, Silver and Bronze prize winners, Certifications of Merit were awarded to further 100 winners as 25 for each category. They were also rewarded with cash prizes and certificates. Sri Lanka Insurance Association came forward to grant sponsorships for those cash prizes.
The prize giving to admire and encourage students, who reflected excellent talents and skills as budding artistes, was held ceremoniously with the participation of winning students, their parents, representatives of senior management of respective Insurance companies and many other distinguished guests who graced the occasion.
