SQA DELIVERS INTERNATIONALLY RECOGNISED QUALIFICATIONS IN SRI LANKA
Margaret Curran, Regional Manager for Sri Lanka and South Asia at the Scottish Qualifications Authority (SQA), speaks about the value of internationally recognised SQA qualifications:
“Qualifications enable people to demonstrate the skills, knowledge and understanding they have acquired at school, college, university, and the workplace. They allow people to take the next steps on the path to their chosen career.
“We have over 90 years’ experience delivering industry approved, relevant SQA Higher National Diplomas; qualifications that meet the demands of students but also reflect the evolving requirements of employers. Since 2013, we have offered a range of Computer Science, Business, and Management SQA Higher National Diplomas in Sri Lanka.
“Our courses have been designed in partnership with industry and professional bodies and we apply the same rigorous standards in Sri Lanka as we do to our centres in Scotland and elsewhere around the world.
“What’s more, the practical skills and specialist knowledge SQA HNDs students develop over the course of their studies help them make the successful transition from a diploma to a degree.
“There are other added benefits that come from working towards SQA HNDs. Professor John Wilson, vice-principal and pro-vice chancellor learning and student experience at Glasgow Caledonian University, said: ‘Students leaving college with an SQA HND are particularly well placed to enter a UK university degree programme. Not only will they have their SQA HND in the chosen field; which gives them a solid foundation for further study at degree level, they will also have real language skills, both in their native tongue and in English which will make them eminently employable.’
“When students successfully complete their SQA HND they and their families can be confident they will possess a qualification that is accepted and respected globally. We have been operating in overseas territories for over 25 years. And thanks to the agreements we have in place with universities around the world, SQA HND graduates have successfully made the transition to degree courses in the USA, Europe and the UK.
“We are committed to our centres in Sri Lanka. We are a not-for-profit organisation sponsored by the Scottish Government. Our efforts are trained towards the best interests of our students, not shareholders. We invest and re-invest in the quality of our provision and customer service. We make sure our centres, wherever they are in the world, feel like they are right by our side.
“More and more institutions around the world are accepting SQA HND graduates into final year degree programmes, reaffirming our belief in the quality and standing of our qualifications. Now is the time to start you own journey with an SQA HND.”
