Green Energy Champion Accelerator 2021 Takes Off with Five Local Green Energy Innovators
The Green Energy Champion Accelerator 2021 kicks off with five green energy-based businesses, which have been selected to develop their business ideas and prospects for local and international partnerships in the Green Energy ecosystem.
The six-month long accelerator programme will provide intense and immersive training and mentoring by industry experts to help these businesses grow, identify potential opportunities, take calculated risks, and build business relationships, while simultaneously creating a positive impact on the environment, community and economy.
After a successful call-out, 11 shortlisted candidates got the opportunity to pitch their innovative and sustainable business ideas at the Selection Roundtable, held online on 22nd June 2021.
The candidates were then reviewed and assessed based on the technological viability and market fit of their innovation or product, subsequently resulting in Ecosteem, Sanota, Rhoda, Route Sonar and Eco Tech Base entering the Green Energy Champion Accelerator 2021.
The unanimous decision was taken by an esteemed panel of judges, composed of representatives from each partner organisation of Green Energy Champion 2021 – the German Federal Foreign Office; Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH; Ministry of Power – State Ministry of Solar, Wind and Hydro Power Generation Projects Development; Delegation of German Industry and Commerce in Sri Lanka; Sri Lanka Sustainable Energy Authority; Good Life X (GLX); and Hatch Works.
Moving away from traditional event giveaways and upholding the Green Energy Champion’s commitment to sustainability, the Selection Roundtable concluded on a rewarding and uplifting note – announcing the planting of 66 trees in the Anawilundawa wetlands in commemoration of the partners and finalists in attendance.
A virtual version of the forest was displayed for the attendees of the event, while the actual care and maintenance of the trees on site will be overseen by Carbon Planter. The judges also received lifetime access to Carbon Planter’s software platform which enables them to trace their trees’ progress.
Green Energy Champion – together with its partners – wishes the chosen five the very best as they enter the next stage of the campaign with a unified mission to promote energy-efficiency and conscious energy consumption in the country.
