BCS Sri Lanka Section elects new leadership for 2023/2024
BCS The Chartered Institute for IT – Sri Lanka Section (BCSSL) elected its new leadership for the year 2023/2024 at the Annual General Meeting held recently at BMICH. The new leadership team consists of the Executive Committee led by Chairman Mr. Alanzo Doll, Secretary Mr. Sanjeewa Perera and Treasurer Mr. Sampath Senadeera, while Mr. Vajeendra S Kandegamage being the Immediate Past Chairman.
Mr. Alanzo Doll is a well-known industry personality with more than 30 years of ICT industry experience in multinationals such as Microsoft, IBM and AIA Insurance. He is the CTO of Engenuity AI (Pvt) Ltd and Co-founder of Triune Consulting International Ltd. He is a Chartered IT Professional (CITP – UK) and holds a Masters Degree in business Administration (MBA – UK), Certified Management Accountant (CMA- AUS), Degree in Computer Science (BSc – UK) and Member of the British Computer Society (MBCS), having received his primary and secondary education at Wesley College, Colombo.
Elaborating on his vision for BCS Sri Lanka Section, Chairman Alanzo Doll said “This year is a significant and transformational year for our entire ICT industry with the Ministry of Technology reaffirming their deep commitment to create a more digitized and modern Sri Lanka, at the launch of DIGICON 2030. We at BCS Sri Lanka section are an integral part of this journey, working closely with the ministry of technology, ICTA and other industry bodies to achieve this goal.
Furthermore, our signature event the ‘National ICT Awards (NBQSA)’ will be a part of the digital month announced for later this year. The National ICT Awards is organized by BCS Sri Lanka section for the 25th time, recognizes outstanding achievements of organizations and individuals who have developed high quality ICT products whilst creating international recognition of these local products as well”.
The chairman also emphasized his plan on providing more BCS professional member benefits by conducting tech events such as the ‘AI & Data summit’, tech forums & networking events as well as providing offers and opportunities through various business related initiatives to the membership.
Another significant achievement for the BCS Sri Lanka Section this year was the past President of BCSSL Mr. Ruwan Ameresekera being elected as the Treasurer of the Asia Pacific ICT Alliance (APICTA). Asia Pacific ICT Alliance (APICTA), is an association of 17 permanent member countries & economies in the region, who come together in the spirit of collaboration, forming a network to promote technology innovation and encouraging the development of indigenous ICT solutions for the global market via an annual awards program.
The BCS Sri Lanka section (BCSSL) was established in 1996. The section has over 1000 professional members (MBCS) and about 3000 student members. There over 150 Chartered Information Technology Practitioners (CITP)s and BCSSL counts more than 30 Fellow Members (FBCS) amongst its membership.
The parent body, the British Computer Society (BCS), is the industry body for IT professionals and a Chartered Engineering Institution for Information Technology (IT) in UK. Having members in over 100 countries around the world, BCS is the foremost leading professional and learned society in the field of computers and information systems.
