LAUGFS Gas is Revising the Gas Prices After Five Months
Over the past few months, the global gas market has witnessed a substantial and swift increase in prices. This surge is primarily attributed to the rising global demand for LP gas, which far surpasses the available supply. In August, the world market gas price stood at US$ 463 per metric ton. By September, this price had surged by US$ 94, reaching a total of US$ 557 per metric ton. As a result, domestic gas cylinder prices in Sri Lanka were anticipated to rise by approximately Rs. 860. However, thanks to prudent management decisions that involved accurate market price forecasts, LAUGFS Gas chose to implement a more moderate increase in gas cylinder prices, raising them by only Rs. 145, rather than passing on the full impact of the global gas market price hike.
Accordingly, the prices of LP gas cylinders in Colombo district are as follows.
Cylinder Type | Prevailing Price: Colombo District Price* | New Price: Colombo District Price* | Price Increase |
12.5 Kg | Rs. 3690/- | Rs. 3835/- | Rs. 145/- |
5 Kg | Rs. 1476/- | Rs. 1535/- | Rs. 59/- |
LAUGFS Gas has effectively mitigated price increases for gas in Sri Lanka by closely monitoring global market price fluctuations and efficiently managing gas reserves within the country. Despite the elevated cost of gas imports in Sri Lanka in August, driven by the surging global gas prices during that month, LAUGFS Gas refrained from raising gas prices.
