Sri Lanka secures three wins at International Environmental Olympiad
Hirudi Thiranya Wickramasinghe – a main anchor of Sirasa TV’s Punchi Panchi live programme and a grade seven student of Anula Vidyalaya in Nugegoda, Dasuni Uduwerella – a grade 13 student of Viharamahadevi Vidyalaya in Kandy, and Senethu Mindiv Bandara – a grade six student of Gannoruwa Vidayalaya in Peradeniya represented the seventh International Environment Olympiad (IEO) held in Lucknow, India.
The students were selected by the Colombo Children’s Book Society (CCBS). During the event, Hirudi Thiranya Wickramasinghe and Dasuni Uduwerella managed to win the third place in the “Winds of Change” competition of the school category. The team representing Sri Lanka was also able to become The Best Team Player among teams from different countries and 29 schools in India.
The competition was held for four days at the CMS City Montessori School in Lucknow, India, which has set a Guinness record as the world’s largest school. It was attended by teams from different parts of the world, and from 29 schools in India. Dr. Dhamma Desha Ambalanpitiya, the founder and President of the CCBS, represented Sri Lanka as a special guest at the event.
