Browns Reaches Out to the Needy Children in Anuradhapura
Brown & Company PLC reached out to support the children under the residential care of the Asoka Children’s Home in Anuradhapura through the Group’s integrated CSR brand, Browns Shakthi.
The project was implemented in line with the objective of uplifting the living standards of less-fortunate children. Instead of organizing Intercompany Vesak Day Competitions, the Group decided to allocate funds into a livelihood development project for the needy children in a rural area. The CSR programme was one of the many initiatives amongst a series of projects planned for 2018 under the Browns Shakthi CSR brand.
The Asoka Children’s Home operating under the Governmental scrutiny with twenty-six boys been directed to foster care, was chosen for the project. Previously too Browns was involved in developing the infrastructure of the Home and providing support for the education of the children through the support of Browns employees. Senior Vice President Group Human Resources, Mr. Paduma Subasinghe referred to the charity as a successful employee engagement mission of the Browns Group.
“We strongly believe in giving back to society, and having a sound social culture within the organization creates a fulfilling work environment. It gives a feeling of gratification to know that we are working for something greater than ourselves and that we care about people and our society”.
With the objective of uplifting living conditions of these less-fortunate children, a number of household items were provided to them. These included a water tank, water purifier, pillows, mattresses and twenty four new beds, along with books and stationary and study tables and cupboards.
