Conducts free ‘Waidya Hamuwa’ health camps in Mullaitivu and Vavuniya and makes donation to Trincomalee General Hospital

More than 500 people in the Northern province benefitted from free medical attention while the General Hospital Trincomalee received essential medications, courtesy of health-related community initiatives that Ceylinco Life completed in the first quarter of this year.

The latest medical camps organised by the life insurance leader under its ‘Waidya Hamuwa’ (Meet the doctor) community health initiative took place at the Vallipuram Maha Vidyalayam, Puthukudiyiruppu in Mullaitivu and the Sivapuram Primary School in Vavuniya, and provided free doctor consultations and health screening for 227 and 274 people respectively.

Coordinated by the Ceylinco Life branches in the Vavuniya region and Kilinochchi with the involvement of over 40 staff members, these camps provided screenings and tests to diagnose diseases such as diabetes, hypertension, heart and kidney disease, cholesterol, and vision-related problems to people who have limited access to medical diagnostics and preventive healthcare.

The free random blood sugar tests, electrocardiograms (ECGs), urine tests, instant cholesterol tests, and Body Mass Index (BMI) measurements conducted at these camps diagnosed patients with type 2 diabetes, hypertension, hypercholesterolemia, bronchial asthma, and ischemic heart disease. They were prescribed medication and advised on how to manage these conditions. Visiting doctors at the camps also provided participants with the information necessary to help them make better lifestyle choices to prevent or control non-communicable diseases, the Company said.

Of the 222 patients who received vision screenings at the camps, 33 patients were recommended the use of spectacles.

In addition to the medical camps, Ceylinco Life also donated medications worth over Rs. 400,000 to the General Hospital in Trincomalee. This donation was made possible through the contributions of both the employees and the Company.

To date, Ceylinco Life’s Waidya Hamuwa programme has benefitted more than 148,000 people via 400 ‘Waidya Hamuwa’ camps across the country. These medical camps are conducted by qualified and experienced doctors attached to the state health sector, nursing staff attached to private laboratories, and professional opticians.

Ceylinco Life defines its Corporate Social Responsibility as ‘The continuing commitment of the company to create a sustainable business environment even in the remotest areas of the country through meaningful interventions in areas such as healthcare and education for needy people, while providing protection and financial security of the highest quality.’

Adjudged Sri Lanka’s ‘Brand of the Year’ and ‘Service Brand of the Year’ by the Sri Lanka Institute of Marketing (SLIM) and ‘Best Life Insurer in Sri Lanka’ by World Finance for the ninth consecutive year in 2022, Ceylinco Life was conferred the ‘Peoples Life Insurance Service Provider of the Year’ title at 2023 SLIM Kantar Peoples Awards for the 17th consecutive year. Ceylinco Life has been the country’s leading life insurer for more than half of the 35 years it has been in existence. The Company was also ranked the ‘Most Valuable Life Insurance Brand in Sri Lanka’ by Brand Finance and certified a ‘Great Workplace’ in Sri Lanka for the third consecutive year in 2022. Ceylinco Life has close to a million lives covered by active policies and provides innovative life insurance solutions which offer protection while de-risking the goals and ambitions of the Company’s policyholders.
