Ceylon Tobacco Company educates staff on Beating Plastic Pollution for World Environment Day 2018
In celebration of World Environment Day 2018,and in keeping with this year’s theme of “Beat Plastic Pollution”, Ceylon Tobacco Company PLC (CTC) recently hosted a series of educational activities for its employees in order to promote sustainability throughout the organization. The activities were conducted from 5th – 8th June.
Apart from tree planting activities, which were organized in many of the tobacco leaf growing areas; an educational campaign was also conducted internally to raise awareness on how to reduce single-use plastics and how to be more conscious of reusing plastics in employees’ day-to-day lives.
Informative newsletters and videos on reducing plastic use were circulated among employees via email and several interactive games and quizzes were organized throughout the week to educate employees on the subject.
In addition, employees came together to brainstorm ideas on how to further eliminate plastic usage at the workplace. CTC will implement some of the best ideas submitted in line with their target of reducing general garbage to landfill by 1%.
