Hemas Hospitals hosts noble community outreach initiative under the blessed Esala Full Moon
In a bid to support low-income communities battling the record rates of inflation within the country, leading private healthcare provider Hemas Hospitals conducted a community outreach programme at its primary locations in Wattala and Thalawathugoda on Esala Full Moon Poya Day, which fell on July 13th, 2022. Evoking the blessings of the Esala Full Moon, the programme saw the Hospital’s staff serving a nourishing meal of lunch to thousands of underprivileged community members at both locations.
The initiative sought to provide lunch to over 2000 low-income earners in the nearby communities, as well as to individuals jammed in the area’s fuel queues. The day’s activities took place under the auspices of Most Venerable Panditha Vijitha Ransi Thero of Thalawathugoda Sri Baudharama Temple, Hikgoda Chandima Thero, and Rev. Rajitha Liyanage of St. Anne’s Church Wattala, all of whom went on to admire the noble initiative led by Hemas Hospitals.
Commenting on their latest outreach programme, Hemas Hospitals and Laboratories Managing Director Dr. Lakith Peiris stated, “With skyrocketing inflation rates, it is becoming more and more challenging for Sri Lanka’s underpriviledged communities to access the three meals they need to survive. As a responsible corporate entity and a respected pillar in the private healthcare sector, this initiative was us acting on our duty to take care of these communities, especially those who live near our primary locations in Wattala and Thalawathugoda. My gratitude goes out to our employees who were present on the day as well as to the clergy who so generously took the time to join this cause,”
Steered by the Hospital chain’s management, the noble initiative witnessed participation from a large number of hospital’s employees and the leadership team, including Hemas Hospitals and Laboratories Managing Director Dr. Lakith Peiris.
