Microsoft donates essential medicine to Sri Lanka Red Cross Society
Responding to the current medicine shortage in the country, Microsoft donated essential medicine worth LKR 8.5 million to the Sri Lanka Red Cross Society (SLRCS) recently. The donation was handed over by Harsha Randeny – country manager for Microsoft Sri Lanka and Maldives, to Dr. A.T Sudarshana – deputy director of Medical Supplies Division at the Ministry of Health, in the presence of the officials from the Ministry of Health and SLRCS.
The funds for the donation were raised through the contribution of Microsoft employees in the Asia Pacific region, echoing the culture of giving that is fostered within Microsoft. The donation was directed through Elixir, Sri Lanka’s first ever medical donation matching platform launched by SLRCS.
The Elixir platform, hosted on Microsoft Azure, is designed to coordinated responses to address the overall medical needs of hospitals in Sri Lanka and was implemented with the support of donations from global entities including Microsoft.
