Sunlight ‘Manudam Viyamana’ invites the nation to strengthen the fabric of humanity in Sri Lanka
“Manudam Viyamana’ a nationwide initiative recently launched by Sunlight – one of the oldest and most loved brands in Sri Lanka with a legacy of 135 years – calls on Sri Lankans to strengthen the bonds of care among all communities in our country.
Sri Lankans have long lived as a multi ethnic, multi-cultural people with vastly diverse religious beliefs and speaking different languages, whilst living together in peace and harmony with the fabric of humanity holding us firmly together.
Speaking on the need to strengthen these bonds that unite us together as one Sri Lanka, Sharmila Bandara, Marketing Director – Home Care, Food and Refreshments for Unilever Sri Lanka said, “Sri Lankans are known the world over for our ready smiles and welcoming nature. For generations, irrespective of race or religion we have all lived together as one – similar to how different threads woven together creates a fabric. Strengthening this social fabric is our responsibility.”
In the recent past, the bonds among communities have weakened causing people to turn away from each other. It is essential that we rise above the mistrust and re-unite as a nation by rebuilding trust and strengthening the multi-ethnic fabric of Sri Lankan society. Rebuilding trust is one of the hardest things to do and yet it is impossible to move forward without it. As brothers and sisters of one family, we need to be open-minded towards every race, religion, and belief, which is what makes our beautiful country the diverse nation that it is.
“Sri Lanka is home to all of us. Culturally, our home is considered to be the most sacred place to us. It is our comfort-zone. Openness of our heart means we truly trust and care. And the ultimate test of trust is when you open your heart and let someone into your home. It is not just a physical act of ‘letting in’, but it is the ultimate demonstration of willingness to ‘let someone into your life’.
Therefore, Sunlight invites the people of our nation to Open Hearts and Open Homes to all Sri Lankans to strengthen the bonds of care in Sri Lanka. We can make a big difference in our country, if all of us make a decision to open our hearts to all Sri Lankans,” said Ms. Bandara.
Sunlight welcomes all Sri Lankans to support this decision by giving their pledges to the “Sunlight Manudam Viyamana” initiative. The pledges can be given via a missed call to 0777388888 on any mobile network, or by visiting www.sunlightohoh.com, or the pledges can be given during the island wide pledge collection carried out in partnership with all major media organizations that will join hands with Sunlight on the “Manudam Viyamana” campaign.
