S-lon initiates Drinking Water Project at the historic Pahiyangala Temple
S-lon Lanka (Pvt) Ltd, the market leader in water management systems and thermoplastic pipes in Sri Lanka, as part of their CSR initiatives, has supported innumerable social and community programs, touching the lives of many Sri Lankans.
Continuing its corporate social responsibility, S-lon Lanka fulfilled a long felt need of the historic Pahiyangala Rock Cave Temple by making drinking water accessible to both the monks and the laity who visit the temple in large numbers with the inauguration of the drinking water project by Hon. RajithaSenaratne, Minister of Health, Nutrition& Indigenous Medicine on the poya day.
The Pahiyangala Drinking Water Project was initiated by Mr. S.C. Weerasekera, Group Director of The Capital Maharaja Organisation Ltd and under whose supervision the initiative was completed successfully. Pahiyangala Rock Cave temple located at Bulathsinhala in the Kalutara district is not only regarded as Sri Lanka’s largest cave but also said to be amongst the largest natural rock formations discovered in Asia.
Venerable PahiyangalaChandima Thera, the chief incumbent of the temple, commended S-lon Lanka for their sustaining commitment towards fulfilling their corporate social responsibility and thanked S-lon Lanka for the meritorious deed in making water accessible to the 50 monks attached to the vihara and the devotees who come in large numbers climbing the mountain rock especially on poya days.
The event was coordinated by Mr. ShiraasMohomad, Manager Product Development and Plumbers Club S-lon Lanka (Pvt) Ltd, together with the members of S-lon Plumbers Club. The team managed to successfully complete the project within a very short period of time. Venerable PahiyangalaChandima Thera also praised Mr. ShiraasMohomad for his determination and enthusiasm over the project and said it was a great service to the social-religious development of the community.
This initiative was envisioned and administered by Mr. S.C. Weerasekara, Group Director of Capital Maharaja Organisation Ltd. The project received wide acclaim and praise for being exemplary of religious and social cohesion, as the voluntary labour was provided mostly by non-Buddhists, who were very willing and enthusiastic from planning to construction and everything in-between.

Mr. RanjanLiyanage, Sales Director S-lon Lanka (Pvt) Ltd, Ms. ShalinieNavaratne, Manager Business Development and Trade Marketing and the staff of S-lon Lanka (Pvt) Ltd also participated at the inauguration ceremony.
Ms. ShalinieNavaratne commenting on the project said that, “CSR is ingrained into our value system and is a way of life at S-lon. It is an important cornerstone in our heritage. Further, our CSR initiatives are nationally relevant and have a lasting impact on those who benefit.” She further said, ‘to S-lon, ‘Water means Life’, therefore we consider it as a privilege and an obligation to make this resource available to such a place of historic value that was in dire need.’
