SLASSCOM signs MoU with Dharmavahini Foundation
The Sri Lanka Association Software and Services Company (SLASSCOM) very recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding with LearnTV, a national educational television channel owned by Dharmavahini Foundation. SLASSCOM’s partnership with LearnTV is yet another initiative to push the IT/BPM industry to greater heights in the global arena.
Hariharan Padmanaban- Director signed the agreement on behalf of SLASSCOM with the Patron of Dharmavahini Foundation Bhikkhu Mettavihari on the 26th of January in the presence of many officials. LearnTV will feature and promote SLASSCOM events and educational programs through its channel, schools and individuals across the country with a motive of developing and building a sustainable pool of talent including functional literacy, which will prepare them to enter the highly literate working society.
There are many under-privileged children and youth in Sri Lanka excluded from basic or higher education. However TV and computers now exhibit an increasing adoption rate across other parts of the island. This will prove to be an effective and interactive way to reach and educate them. The videos will also be available via the LearnTV website for later viewing and download providing further convenience and access to knowledge anytime, anywhere.
The sector is experiencing a surge in its export performances during the past years, increased employment levels and investment opportunities from both local and global prospects, inclusive growth throughout the country, all thanks to the visionary objectives and initiatives of the industry which also has immense potential to offer internationally.
SLASSCOM is the national chamber for the IT/BPM industry in Sri Lanka and acts as the catalyst of growth for the Sri Lankan IT and BPM industry by facilitating trade and business, propagation of education and employment, encouragement of research and innovation, and by supporting the creation of a progressive national policy framework. It has an ambitious 2022 Vision to become a $5 billion industry, creating 200,000 direct jobs and launching 1,000 start-ups.
