The Great HR Debate 2015 – Semi Finals on 8th June
Virtusa, GlaxoSmithKline, Sampath Bank and Pan Asia Bank Qualify
The 2nd Round of The Great HR Debate 2015 organized by IPM Sri Lanka, the premier professional body for Human Resources Management in Sri Lanka, was held on Friday 29th May 2015 at the IPM Members Lounge of the “HR House” in Colombo. Veterans in their particular industries – Virtusa (Pvt) Ltd., GlaxoSmithKline (Pvt) Ltd., Sampath Bank PLC and Pan Asia Bank PLC emerged the winners of their respective debates which were hotly contested and secured places at the semi-finals to be held on Monday, 8th of June 2015.
The Panel of Judges for the 2nd round comprised of Sunil Dissanayake-Director General of BMICH/Honorary Member of IPM, Dyan Seneviratne-Chief Executive Officer, IPM Sri Lanka, Dr. Prasadini Gamage-Senior Lecturer – Department of Human Resource Management, University of Kelaniya and Mr. Tyronne Ockersz, Business Unit Head of Hayleys Industrial Solutions [Pvt] Ltd.
The semi finals of The Great HR Debate 2015 will also be held at the same venue and the first debate between Virtusa and GlaxoSmithKline on the topic “Sri Lankan organizations can achieve success by adapting job for life concept instead of hire fire concept” will kick-off at 6:30 pm with the former proposing the topic. This will be followed by the debate between Sampath Bank and Pan Asia Bank. The topic for this debate is “The role of trade unions can be replaced with Joint Consultative Councils” with Sampath Bank as the proposer.
“The 1st and 2nd rounds of The Great HR Debate 2015 have been extremely stimulating and interesting. The quality of the debates and the arguments and justifications being brought out shows the maturity of the participants” said Rohitha Amarapala-President, IPM Sri Lanka.
“We expect two keenly contested semi final debates amongst the semi finalists, and we wish them well” he added.
The 2 winners of the semi finals will clash for the coveted Great HR Debate 2015 Trophy on the 16th of June 2015 at the sessions of “National HR Conference 2015” – South Asia’s largest HR conference, at the BMICH.
IPM was founded in 1959 and was subsequently incorporated by an Act of Parliament in 1976. The Institute is the leading Human Resource authority in Sri Lanka and has contributed significantly to develop and nurture the Human Resource Management profession in the country.
IPM Sri Lanka is affiliated to the Asia Pacific Foundation of Human Resources Management and also to the World Federation of People Management Association. IPM, being a professional institute is also a constituent member of the Organization of Professional Associations [OPA] Sri Lanka. Currently IPM comprises of over 900 Professional Members who serve in both public and private organizations, as well as approximately 7,000 students who follow the diverse programs on human resources offered by IPM and its regional study centers throughout the country.
