IPM Member Devendra Launches Informative Book on HR
Experienced human resources management professional, human resource consultant, resource person, trainer and Member of IPM Sri Lanka –Thilak Devendra recently launched his maiden human resources related book “Employee Performance Management” in Sinhala titled “Sevaka Karyapala Kalamanakaranaya” at IPM Sri Lanka “HR House” in Colombo 5 amidst a large and distinguished gathering comprising of HR practitioners, academia and students.
“IPM Sri Lanka is proud that a distinguished member of our fraternity has embarked and completed the difficult task of writing a book on a most opportune and important subject such as employee performance management” Chief Guest and IPM Sri Lanka President-Rohitha Amarapala.
“Employee performance management is critical to an organizations continued well being, growth as well as retention and motivating employees in competitive, high performance cultures. Devendra’s book helps HR managers, non-HR managers as well as other executives to grasp and learn the concept of performance management which has been explained in an easy to understand, non-technical language” he added.
Having served for over 30 years in various managerial and executive capacities in the corporate sector, Devendra has over 15 years as an experienced HR and management professional and as a lecturer in the field of management. He has also functioned in the capacity of resource person and consultant for over 10 and 8 years respectively for prestigious organizations including IPM Sri Lanka, Brandix College of Clothing Technology (BCCT), National Institute of Business Management (NIBM), National School of Business Management (NSBM), Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB), Project Management Solutions and Sri Lanka Institute of Local Governance.
His academic and professional qualifications include an MBA from the Wayamba University, Postgraduate Diploma from the Rajarata University, Bachelor of Business Management from the Open University of Sri Lanka, Executive Diploma in Business Administration from the University of Colombo, National Diploma in Personnel Management from IPM and National Diploma in Computer System Design from NIBM.
“Employee Performance Management will no doubt be a boon to both students who engage in their studies in Sinhala as well as HR and non-HR executives and managers who perform their day to day tasks” stated Devendra.
“Having received so much knowledge, support, opportunities and encouragement from society during my career spanning over 30 years, this effort in writing and compiling this book is in fact a form of giving back to society” he added.
Devendra’s efforts fill a void in the Sinhala books available for learning, understanding and studying the subject of human resources management with specific reference to employee performance management. The 10 chapters, 10 exercises, 3 insights, 2 case studies and annexes of the book explains the various important factors in employee performance management in simple, non-technical and easy to understand language which would no doubt be appreciated by the readers. The book elaborates on the entire process of employee performance management starting with an explanation of the concept of performance, its management and process, goals & objectives of employee performance management, factors affecting employee performance, performance measurement, evaluation methods, employee development in a background of poor performance and performance related compensation.
