IPM Powers “Battle of the Brains” Interschool Debating Championship
The Institute of Personnel Management of Sri Lanka (IPM) – the pioneer and foremost professional body for Human Resources Management in Sri Lanka, has organized the “Battle of the Brains” Interschool Debating Championship amongst schools in the Nugegoda Education Division. The “Battle of the Brains” Interschool Debating championship comes hot on the heels of the highly successful The Great HR Quiz corporate debating championship organized by IPM.
The main objective of organizing the “Battle of the Brains” interschool debating championship is to facilitate the uplifting of knowledge and bring to light the hitherto hidden talents of the students. IPM is organizing this championship as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program in order to give an opportunity for capable and knowledgeable students to display their talents and be given the due recognition that they deserve.
“12 schools have confirmed their participation, and we are confident that the championship will be keenly contested with much enthusiasm and exuberance” said Dyan Seneviratne-Chief Executive Officer of IPM.
“At IPM, we place a great amount of value on uplifting standards and inculcating positive values in society. In addition, organizing the championship will also help to set an example to our student population and other stakeholders to consider CSR initiatives as important and essential, virtuous activities with far reaching benefits accruing to society” he added.
The initial round of the championship started on the 24th of February 2015 followed by the 1st round on 25th & 26th of February while the 2nd round and the semi-finals will be held on 3rd & 4th March and 12th March respectively. More than 500 students, teachers and principals of schools and representatives from the Nugegoda Divisional Education office are expected to participate at the final debate to be held on 17th March 2015 at the President’s College in Kotte.
IPM was founded in 1959 and was subsequently incorporated by an Act of Parliament in 1976. The Institute has developed to be the leading Human Resource authority in Sri Lanka and has contributed significantly to develop and nurture the Human Resource Management profession in the country.
IPM is affiliated to the Asia Pacific Foundation of Human Resources Management and also to the World Federation of People Management Association. IPM, being a professional institute is also a constituent member of the Organization of Professional Associations [OPA] Sri Lanka. Currently IPM comprises of over 900 Professional Members who serve in both public and private organizations, as well as approximately 7,000 students who follow the diverse programs on human resources offered by IPM and its regional study centers throughout the country.
