Over 1,500 scholarships from CA Sri Lanka to fulfil professional dreams of aspiring Chartered Accountants
In its standing as the preferred destination for accounting education in the country, the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Sri Lanka (CA Sri Lanka) has since been at the fore in strengthening the accounting profession by producing exceptionally talented Chartered Accountants, who successfully lead a multitude of local and multinational businesses.
The CA Scholarship Programme, launched by the CA Foundation, has been recognising exceptionally talented students and have helped them accomplish their professional dreams by supporting them with a range of scholarship schemes.
Since it was established in 2010, the CA Foundation has successfully awarded over 1,500 scholarships to students from across the country, hailing from all walks of life, in recognition of their remarkable talent while allowing them to achieve their lifelong dreams of becoming successful Chartered Accountants.
The CA Scholarship Awards Ceremony is an annual event in the CA Sri Lanka calendar, and at this year’s scholarship ceremony, over 130 students were awarded full scholarships.
Mr. Mahendra Jayasekera, Managing Director of Lanka Walltiles PLC, was the chief guest, while Mr. Dihan Udugampola, Senior Associate at Acuity Knowledge Partners was the guest of honour. Among the other special invitees at the event were, Mr. Sanjaya Bandara, President of CA Sri Lanka, Mr. Heshana Kuruppu, Vice President of CA Sri Lanka, Mr. Asoka Jayasinghe, Chairman of the CA Foundation Committee, Council Members, CA Foundation Committee Members; and Ms. Dulani Fernando, Chief Executive Officer of CA Sri Lanka.
Scholarships were awarded under various categories, including the L.A. Weerasinghe Scholarship Scheme, the National Conference Scholarship Scheme, the G.C.E. A/L District 1st Scholarship Scheme, the G.C.E. A/L Island Top 10 Scholarship Scheme, the Corporate Level Trainee Scholarship Scheme, and the Qatar Chapter Scholarship Scheme.
Under the LA Weerasinghe Scholarship Scheme, 30 students were awarded full scholarships, while under the National Conference Scholarship Scheme 44 students received scholarships, and another two students received scholarships under the Qatar Chapter Scholarship Scheme, paving the way for them to kick start their careers as Chartered Accountants.
Under the Corporate Level Trainee Scheme, 38 existing CA students at Corporate Level were awarded scholarships, while a total of 23 GCE Advanced Level students who were adjudged district first and island top ten were also rewarded for their exceptionalism, bringing the CA Foundation’s total number of scholarships awarded to over 1500 within a span of just twelve years.
