Singer Sri Lanka Partners Logos Floating Book-Fair
Singer Sri Lanka demonstrated its continuous commitment to supporting the education sector by coming forward as the Chief Sponsor of the Logos Hope Floating Book Fair. The Logos Hope is the world’s largest floating book fair and is currently docked at the Colombo harbour as part of its tour of Asia. The ship opened its doors to the Sri Lankan public from October 22ndand is expected to be in Colombo until November 12th. Through the initiative, Singer Sri Lanka will power the crew of the Logos Hope in their mission to bring knowledge to the hands of millions of people the worldwide. This isn’t the famed floating book fair’s first visit to Colombo, but this visit will mark the ship’s last trip to Sri Lankan shores for the next eight years.
‘The 400 crew members of the ship hail from a multitude of backgrounds and countries, but they are brought together by their common goal of sharing love, knowledge and good literature. As one of Sri Lanka’s most responsible corporate citizens, we at Singer recognize this drive to bring about positive change and are delighted to come forward as Chief Sponsor’, said Mr. Chandana Samarasinghe, Director – Operations, Singer Sri Lanka, as he handed over the cheque to the Logos Hope team.
Mr. Samarasinghe also alluded to Logos Hope’s peripheral activities that augment the book fair operations. ‘In their previous visits to our shores, the crew members of the Logos Hope were involved in aid projects, including well digging, hygiene pack donation, installation of clean water systems, and free eye testing and eye glasses.’ Mr. Samarasinghe further added that Singer has completed one project in collaboration with the crew of the Logos Hope and have planned to rollout a few more activities during the course of Logos Hope’s stay in Colombo. ‘Chief among these projects will include visits to children’s homes, re-painting underprivileged schools and providing support to hospital’, Mr. Samarasinghe said.
Logos Hope offers over 5000 titles in a variety of subjects that will kindle the innate curiosity of children and adults. The Logos Hope book fair opened to the public from October 22nd to November 12th. Opening hours are 1pm to 8pm from Sundays to Tuesdays, and 10am to 8pm from Wednesdays to Saturdays.
