Cod Liver Oil emulsion – for Healthy Growth & Brain Function in Children
For over 80 years, Cod Liver Oil emulsion (liquid) has been known and trusted by families all over the world for its unique naturally occurring content. Cod Liver Oil has been recognized for a multitude of benefits from improving brain function, building immunity, enhancing eye health and building healthy bones and teeth throughout generations.
A study conducted by researchers Rhonda Patrick and Bruce Ames, featured in the Journal of The Federation of American Societies for Experimental Biology in 2014, suggests that supplements containing Omega 3 fatty acids such as Cod Liver Oil along with Vitamin D improves cognitive function and behaviour concerning brain function.
Their research confirms that the function of the brain ismodulated by Vitamin D and Omega-3 fatty acids, which are EPA and DHA found in Cod Liver Oil. It is also believed that the intake of Vitamin D and Omega 3 fatty acids may prevent and modulate the severity of brain dysfunctions such as ADHD, bipolar, schizophrenia, and impulsive behaviour as well.
As evident, DHA, is an Omega-3 fatty acid, which provides essential building blocks for healthy development and function of the brain, eye and nervous system. Around 60% of the human brain consists of fat – 25% of that fat contains DHA. Since a considerable portion of the brain contains these essential fats, studies confirm that an increased consumption of Omega-3 fats such as DHAcan reinforce concentration and are essential to brain development.
The Discovery Centre Report on ” The Omega-3 Vitamin Classroom Study” was conducted by Dr Amanda Kirby Medical Director of The Discovery Centre, Cardiff , UK, having analysed data together with the Department of Education, University of Wales, in 2005. The studyfocused on DHA supplements andsuggested that it may be relevant for Attention-Deficit-Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) in children. The study also involved groups of parents and teachers who recorded ratings before and after supplementation, using a standardised rating scale, called Connors Rating Scale and were conducted on children in mainstream school. At the conclusion, teachers confirmed a 35% improvement in the processes of concentration, attention, ability to learn and oppositional behaviour, according to participants.
This study further confirmed the probable positive gains for children who were given a supplement such as Cod Liver Oil containing Omega 3 Fish Oil, on areas of their behaviour, attention and concentration. Researchers believe that this may pave the way for further study into obtaining a wider understanding of the role of positive nutrition with particular focus on Omega 3 fatty acids available in Cod Liver Oil and vitamins from a health and an educational perspective.
