Hemas Hospital pays tribute to teachers on World Teachers’ Day
In celebration of World Teachers’ Day and in appreciation of the invaluable service rendered by teachers in nurturing the young minds of the country’s future leaders, Hemas Hospital Wattala recently conducted a community healthcare programme for over 100 teachers and 1,000 students.
Held at the Kiribathgoda Viharamahadevi Girls School, the twofold programme offered an opportunity for teachers to go through free health checkups and medical consultation. As the second part of the project, Dr Waruni Pannala of Ragama Teaching Hospital conducted a session on reproductive health and various other illnesses for Ordinary Level and Advanced Level students of the school.
Commenting on the programme, General Manger of Hemas Hospital Wattala, Dr. Samanthi de Silva, said, “A hospital is an essential and an integral part of the community. Thus a hospital should be sensitive to the community’s needs and it should assist members of the community to uphold the societal value system. As a private hospital chain that is committed to providing excellent healthcare services, we consciously strive to play an active role in upholding community values. The free healthcare project conducted at the Viharamahadevi Girls School to honour teachers for their indispensable service to the community was part of our sincere endeavour to play that role to the best of our ability.”
During the healthcare programme teachers were able to avail themselves of various screening and tests to determine the status of their overall health free of charge and those who required further treatment were directed towards proper specialists and consultants.
Thanking Hemas Hospital Wattala for the timely initiative, Anoma Shyamali Abeyratne, School Principal, Viharamahadevi Girls School said, “The free healthcare clinic was a very appropriate method to honour teachers on World Teachers’ Day. Moreover, the informative session on reproductive health for adolescent girls was a timely and a useful endeavour.”
During the session conducted by Dr Waruni Pannala, students received valuable information on physiological and psychological challenges that they are likely to face during adolescence.
