Orthopedic Assoc. of SL, Aesculap Academy, B. Braun Lanka and Biomed International partner for knowledge-share in SL Medical Sector
The Orthopedic Association of Sri Lanka, along with ‘Aesculap Academy’ – one of the leading medical forums for those committed to people‘s health (Learning arm of B Braun Lanka), organised “Revive and Enliven 2022”: The Cadaveric Workshop on Surgical Approaches to the Upper Limb, in collaboration with B. Braun Lanka (Pvt) Ltd – a German multinational and one of the world’s largest medical and pharmaceutical device companies, and Biomed International (Pvt) Ltd. The two-day workshop was held at the Neurotrauma Center, National Hospital Colombo, on February 16 and 17, 2022 with the objective of providing effective training for medical and specialist staff in hospitals to cater to present and future skill requirements within Sri Lanka’s Healthcare Sector.
Speaking on the success of the workshop, current President of Orthopedic Association of Sri Lanka, Senior Consultant Orthopedic, Course Director and Faculty Member, National Hospital Sri Lanka – Dr Dilshan Munidasa stated: “It’s a great educational program conducted for Orthopaedic training doctors, where participants will receive in-depth training from Senior Faculty Members with years of experience in using cutting-edge equipment in this regard. This type of workshop is difficult to arrange as we have a lack of access to cadavers and resources which tend to be fairly expensive. The local faculty is now capable of providing this service free of charge together with B Braun Aesculap Academy.”
Speaking with General Manager – Sales & Marketing, B Braun Lanka – Samantha Seneviratne, stated: “‘Revive and Enliven 2022’ welcomed over 35 doctors and 75 nurses from the National Hospital Colombo, all of which received invaluable training and hands-on experience with using top-of-the-line, critically important techniques to broaden their capabilities and medical prowess to enhance patient safety. It’s our B Braun motto to share our global knowledge with all our stakeholders. We also have the capacity to do so as a leading multinational medical equipment company in Sri Lanka.”
Deputy General Manager – Sales, Biomed International (Pvt) Ltd – Ravi Fernando commented: “It’s a national service when companies come together to share their knowledge and expertise with their stakeholders. Hands-on training is important as Sri Lanka has access to new products and equipment, but with a handful of consultants who are capable of receiving the user experience. However, with trainings such as these, they have a wonderful opportunity to learn about potentially life-saving procedures and equipment”
The Aesculap Academy is one of the leading medical forums for everyone who is professionally, passionately and ambitiously committed to people‘s health. The academy offers medical professionals access to quality knowledge-sharing based on globally recognised quality criteria for using innovative methods and technologies in the healthcare sector.
Concluding Deputy Director, Accident & Orthopaedic Services, National Hospital of Sri Lanka – Dr Indika Jagoda stated: “We have excellent resources in NHSL to facilitate such workshops for our medical professionals. Our next step should be to position our country as a centre of excellence. Internationally, such training is expensive and not quite accessible to all. We have one of the largest orthopaedic centres in the region comprising 420 beds. Our teams led by consultant ortopedic surgeons mange complex cases and our experts are earger to share thier knowledge, skills and expertise locally, regionally and globally. Utilising these resources and developing private public partnersips for development, will enable us to put National Hospital of Sri Lanka on the global map as a centre of excellence, all whilst supporting the economy”.
“Revive and Enliven 2022” was the first in a series of workshops planned by Aesculap Academy, under the direction of B Braun Lanka Pvt Ltd, and its partner organisations
