ComBank Galle Fort branch celebrates 50th anniversary with Rampart Cleaning Project
The Commercial Bank of Ceylon, in collaboration with the Galle Heritage Foundation, recently completed a Rampart Cleaning Project at the historic Galle Fort. This community-driven initiative was undertaken to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Bank’s Galle Fort branch as well as World Environment Day on 5th June, and was aimed at helping preserve the Fort’s charmand environment.
Led by the Bank’s Southern Regional Office and supported by the Bank’s Sustainability Women’s Banking and CSR Department, the project witnessed the active participation of staff of Commercial Bank. Volunteers from the Bank’s Southern Regional Office, Southern Centralised Credit Processing Unit, and Commercial Bank Galle City, Galle Main Street, Karapitiya, and Koggala branches contributed their time and labour towards this project.
The project was implemented under the instructions and guidance of the Galle Heritage Foundation and underscores Commercial Bank’s commitment to giving back to the community while promoting sustainable practices and fostering the preservation of cultural heritage, the Bank said.
Notably, the heritage building which is home to the Bank’s Galle Fort branch and won a Platinum award from the Green Building Council of Sri Lanka (GBCSL) in 2021, after it was renovated and reopened in 2020. It holds historic value as one of the oldest buildings owned by Commercial Bank and as one of the oldest buildings in the Southern Province.
