INSEE Ecocycle inaugurates Resource Recovery Center in massive initiative to transform industrial waste into valuable resources
INSEE Ecocycle, the pioneer in professional waste management in the country, inaugurated the first-ever novel Resource Recovery Center with the aim of transforming industrial waste into valuable resources. INSEE Ecocycle has embarked on this great initiative in collaboration with local FMCG giant, Unilever Sri Lanka.
Gracing the opening ceremony as Chief Guest was Her Excellency, Chulamanee Chartsuwan, Ambassador of Thailand to Sri Lanka. Other distinguished guests present at this remarkable occasion included Gerard Irudayaraj, Supply Chain Director & Head CCBT Foods and Refreshments of Unilever Sri Lanka, Sanjeewa Chulakumara, Director of INSEE Ecocycle Lanka (Private) Limited, Professor Ajith de Alwis, University of Moratuwa, Nandana Ekanayake, Chairman/CEO of INSEE Cement Sri Lanka, senior management from INSEE Cement, INSEE Ecocycle, Unilever Sri Lanka and well-wishers.
At the ceremony, an agreement was signed and exchanged between INSEE Ecocycle and Unilever Sri Lanka formalizing the partnership towards spearheading a waste-free nation.
INSEE Ecocycle is committed to contribute to Unilever’s commitment to reduce the use of virgin plastic by 50% by 2025 and assist in the creation of zero plastic waste.
The fully-fledged Resource Recovery Centre, equipped with state-of-the-art technology, marks an important milestone for INSEE Ecocycle as it provides solutions in transitioning the country towards a greener circular economy, where waste is eliminated and resources are used in an efficient and sustainable way.
INSEE Ecocycle’s Resource Recovery Center will ensure an end-to-end solution facilitating the systematic collection of FMCG and post-consumer waste through comprehensive steps including reverse logistics to collection of waste from general trade and modern trade, segregation, purification, reuse and recycle/upcycle. The cooperation of different recycling partners will secure an upcycling resolution for all discarded goods.

Revolutionising waste management, INSEE Ecocycle’s Resource Recovery Center moves away from accepted conventional norms of recycling, instead employing advanced waste management processes ensuring the discarded waste is converted through manufacturing into an invaluable resource. As a result, the waste does not end up in landfills. Economic, social and environmental costs associated with waste are eliminated and the economy grows while becoming less dependent on resource use contributing to a better environment.
In addition to the new Resource Recovery Center, INSEE Ecocycle also provides sustainable environment-friendly industrial solutions to the public and private institutions, especially in the management of industrial hazardous waste, non-hazardous waste and the disposal of brand sensitive material.
INSEE Ecocycle has assisted for over 700 corporates including government institutions in Sri Lanka responsibly dispose approximately 800,000 MT of industrial waste annually in a sustainable manner with the common objective of protecting the environment.
