Mercantile Cricket Association ‘F’ Division Tournament rebranded as Dr. Sanjeev Jha Challenge Trophy
Colombo: A passionate advocate of Sri Lanka’s Mercantile Sporting community, Dr. Sanjeev Jha made sure that as much as winning on the job was crucial, it was the same spirit that was needed to bring out on the sporting field as well. So whilst motivating the performances in both arenas of the mercantile sporting community and service industry, his efforts have resulted in a number of empathy-based wins. In view of Dr. Jha’s continuous commitment to sportsmanship and the development of the mercantile sector in Sri Lanka, the Mercantile Cricket Association (MCA) ‘F’ Division Tournament was recently rebranded as the ‘Dr. Sanjeev Jha Challenge Trophy’.
Under Dr. Jha’s leadership, Fairfirst Insurance grew from strength to strength during the last 5 years. For him being the best did not necessarily stop at achieving solid company growth but also in creating a sound work-life balance, where wins are encouraged both on and off the field. In this light, Dr. Jha’s passion for sports and in being a corporate champion is how Fairfirst still maintains a winning streak in both the insurance industry and the sporting arena.
Having already made their presence felt with a very active participation in sporting events from basketball, cricket, netball, and badminton, amongst others, it is evident that as an empathetic insurer, Fairfirst Insurance promotes a culture of teamwork and fun. This culture has resulted the company with a number of sporting titles: defending champions of the Mercantile Basketball Tournament 2019 Championship, 1st Runner Up at the Mercantile League Netball Tournament Open Mix Division 2019 and Winners of the MCA ‘F’ Division 25 – Over League Tournament 2019. The Company is also home to a number of employees who currently are actively engaged in the sporting arena and who have already made a name in national level sports such as cricket and basketball.
In speaking about fueling an active corporate sporting culture, Dr. Jha stated, “I believe sports is a great way to bring people together, encourage healthy lifestyles, break boundaries and make our world a happier place. We believe in fostering a culture that promotes the value of working hard, fairness, teamwork and having fun. These are values very dear to Fairfirst and me. This said, I am so very honoured to be representing the MCA ‘F’ Division Tournaments in my name as bringing together a culture of winning in both the corporate world and in the sporting community is how success and happiness is created.”
President of the MCA, Rohana Dissanayake in celebrating this moment states, ‘MCA is home to many corporate cricketing enthusiasts. Dr. Sanjeev Jha is one of many who understands the necessity of sporting gear amidst the corporate suit & tie world and we are pleased to conform to the very pertinent suggestion made by Fairfirst Insurance in rebranding the ‘F’ Division Tournament as the Dr. Sanjeev Jha Challenge Trophy. Whilst doing so we thank Dr. Jha for his continuous commitment and support to the MCA’.
