Nirekh Tejwani Makes History as the Youngest Winner of Sri Lanka Amateur Golf
Colombo: Passionate and driven, Nirekh Tejwani makes history as the youngest title winner at the recently concluded 132nd Sri Lanka Amateur Golf Championship. Since its initiation in 1891, Sri Lanka Amateur Golf Championship is the second oldest amateur golf championship in the world and this triumph crowns Tejwani as the first Gentleman member to win this prestigious title at the Royal Colombo Golf Club in 53 years.
Nirekh Tejwani, competing now at the young age of 16 years is a student at Colombo International School and is on the path to realizing his childhood dream of winning a grand slam in golf (4 majors) and becoming number one in the world.
Tejwani first steps into the world of golf at the tender age of three, set motion a career and dream starting with winning his first tournament – Sri Lanka Junior Open Golf Championship Copper Division at the age of 9. Over the last 7 years he has notably participated and ranked in over 50 tournaments locally and overseas. Some of his noteworthy performances include overall winner at the 2018 and 2019 Sri Lanka Junior Open Golf Championships, gaining 3rd place in the IGU All India Junior Golf Championship (Category C) in 2018, winner of the 2020 Machlachlan Cup and HSBC Premier Junior Golf Championship. Tejwani has been ranked first, nationally 3 times and second twice in the relevant age category between 2016 and 2020.
The most recent win of Nirekh Tejwani, marks a milestone in his sporting career and opens his path to achieving his golfing dream. The young athlete is ready to tee off his career and continue to represent Sri Lanka in his journey.
