Huawei ‘Seeds for the Future’ CSR Program Launches in Sri Lanka
Ten Sri Lankan university students selected to attend China study trip
Huawei, a leading global information and communications technology (ICT) company, works with Ministry of Telecommunication and Digital Infrastructure to launch Seeds For the Future Program at Prime Minister’s office today. Huawei launches the Seeds For the Future program, its global Corporate Social Responsibility program to nurture Sri Lanka ICT talents and facilitate ICT knowledge transferring to support Sri Lanka to be a digitally empowered nation. As a start, Huawei fully sponsors 10 Sri Lankan university students’ study trip in China from Nov. 5 to Nov. 19, 2016.
10 Sri Lankan students from 8 universities across the country have been selected by Ministry of Telecommunication and Digital Infrastructure and Huawei based on the program criterion. During the trip, the students will experience Chinese traditional culture and be provided training courses such as Chinese calligraphy and painting at Beijing Language and Culture University for one week in Beijing. The students will also have opportunities to study cutting-edge technologies such as LTE, and cloud computing, and have hands-on practice in Huawei Headquarter’s most advanced labs in Shenzhen, China. What makes this program unique is that it also offers first-hand learning opportunities through interaction with Huawei staffs and visits to Huawei laboratories, where program participants can engage in hands-on practice and witness live demonstrations of the latest ICT technology.

Mr. Harin Fernando, Minister of Telecommunication and Digital Infrastructure, acknowledged Huawei’s contributions on bridging the digital divide and cultivating ICT talents in Sri Lanka. Students in the program can enhance their abilities to adapt to the ICT industry as they learn more about state-of-the-art technologies and skills, as well as the innovation needs of Sri Lanka market. By acquiring such skills, students would be able to increase their confidence, which helps them to excel in their careers and in multi-cultural business environments.
