Prime Minister awards Singer Ultra Notebooks to top ten O/L performers
Singer Sri Lanka PLC, the country’s number one brand, supported the top ten students who excelled in the G.C.E. Ordinary Level examinations in 2014 at a ceremony held at the Temple Trees recently. Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe awarded the latest Singer Ultra Notebooks to the top performers at a special function held to felicitate the students who achieved island ranking together with dignitaries from the Ministry of Education and the business fraternity. Mr. Asoka Pieris – CEO Singer Sri Lanka PLC and Mr. Mahesh Wijewardene – Director – Marketing and Commercial Singer Sri Lanka PLC were also present at the special occasion.
Speaking about the Singer Sustainability mandate, Mr. Asoka Pieris – CEO Singer Sri Lanka PLC said, “As a respectable corporate citizen we have pledged to uplift the standard of education in Sri Lanka by embarking on the Schools Development Project that began in 2010. We consider it our obligation to support the education of our country while empowering the future generation with the latest innovation available in technology.”
The Department of Examinations, Sri Lanka announced that from 577,220 applicants who sat for the O/L examinations Tharindu Nirmal Wickramasinghe of Nalanda College Colombo achieved the best result while Navanjana Jayawardena of Holy Cross College, Gampaha achieved the second best result. Amashi Niwarthana-Visakha Vidyalaya, Colombo, Nuwani Nethsarani-Rathnawali Balika Vidyalaya, Gampaha and Garuni Abeysinghe-Mahamaya College, Kandy achieved the 3rd best result while D.R. Hemasinghe-Visakha Vidyalaya, Colombo, R.D.U. Rajapaksa-Devi Balika Vidyalaya, Colombo and Ransika Lasantha Gunasekara-Thurstan College achieved the 4th, 5th and 6th best results respectively.
