CEAT launches locally manufactured Speciality Tyres for industrial sector
CEAT Kelani Holdings, the company that manufactures and supplies half of Sri Lanka’s tyre requirements, has launched a series of speciality tyres manufactured locally in six sizes for heavy duty service and industrial applications.
The release of these new tyres in the sizes of 6.00-9, 6.50-10, 7.00-12, 8.25-15, 10-16.5 and 12.5/80-18 represent an important milestone for the company and contribute to further import substitution, the company said.
Of the new CEAT speciality tyre sizes launched by the company, the 6.00-9, 6.50-10, 7.00-12 and 8.25-15 fits fork lifts, material handling and mining equipment. The 10-16.5 caters to skid loaders operating at construction sites, while the 12.5/80-18 size fits JCB loaders.
“CEAT’s contribution to the national economy by manufacturing and supplying a large share of the country’s tyre requirement has been augmented with the launch of these new tyres,” CEAT Kelani Managing Director N. C. Venugopal said. “The range offers maximum durability and stability at a competitive price, factors which make CEAT the market leader in most of the tyre categories in Sri Lanka.”
The new tyre sizes belong to off road category, with tough casing and superior tread compounds providing excellent durability and greater resistance to tears, cuts, chipping and chunking.
CEAT is also the highest selling radial tyre brand in Sri Lanka, accounting for a market share of 31 per cent in the radial segment.
The market leader in the country’s commercial tyre segment as well, CEAT accounts for nearly 50 per cent of Sri Lanka’s tyre requirements, contributing to a massive saving of foreign exchange through import substitution. The brand currently has market shares of 55 per cent for tyres in the Truck/Light Truck category, 44 per cent in the 3-Wheeler, 19 per cent in the motorcycle and 73 per cent in the agricultural segments.
A global tyre brand present in 110 countries and now headquartered in India, CEAT is an acronym that stands for Cavi Electrici Affini Torino, or Electrical Cables & Allied Products of Turin, with origins that date back to 1924 in Italy. A National Business Exellence Award winner in 2010, 2011, and 2012 and a National Quality Award winner in the ‘Manufacturing – Large’ category in 2013, CEAT – Kelani Holdings is a successful Indo-Sri Lanka joint venture between the RPG Group of India and Kelani Tyre Sri Lanka.
