Ceylon Sanctuary is bringing an exclusive retreat-style experience to Sri Lanka with the launch of their boutique hotel properties designed to cater to the most discerning traveller. Any traveller looking for the perfect blend of adventure, culture and hospitality in a homely environment, needs to visit the Sanctuary Lodge in Kaduwela and Sanctuary Hills in Nuwara Eliya to feel the true essence of Sri Lanka.
Speaking at the launch Indika Perera, Head of Sales & Marketing, Ceylon Sanctuaries (Pvt) Limited said, “We are excited about the launch of such a unique value offering to both our local and foreign clients. Where guests can enjoy and experience the different cultures of Sri Lanka, giving them a unique value offering. In Kaduwela the birthplace of the Sri Lankan martial art “Angampora” we have a property that spans over 17 acres and in the hill country of Nuwara Eliya, we have a picturesque property which is in the lap of tea country. Our main focus is to provide an experiential holiday to our guests, which blends local adventures, culture and luxury.”
Sanctuary Lodge in Kaduwela has an architectural design that is clean and modern. The lodge is designed pre-independence, therefore, has a traditional Sri Lankan home style; encompassing the rich cultural heritage of pre-colonization and all the modernisation of luxury travel. With intricate handicraft antique furniture which is evident throughout the complex, is a perfect complement to the lush landscape outside.
The boutique hotel is located in a working rubber plantation where guests can experience the process of rubber tapping and collection. The Kaduwela property boast of a rich history, as it is where the Sinhala Kingdoms of Kotte and Seethawaka reigned. The famous Balum Gala (a large rock formation) is located within the premise and is known in history as one of the lookout points for the Seethawaka Kingdom. With a spectacular view, the guests can either go on an excursion or indulge in a picnic overlooking the city of Colombo and on a clear day they can catch a glimpse of the venerated mountain, Adams Peak (Siripada) in the distance. There are five guest rooms and one suite, with room sizes starting from 25 square meters.
In 1937 the Sanctuary Lodge Kaduwela provided refuge to the gallant Mark Anthony Lyster Bracegirdle, an Anglo-Australian who came to Sri Lanka to become a ‘creeper’ on a tea estate but ended up standing for the rights of the Sri Lankan people pre-independence and fighting with them for it. The estate is also located in close proximity to the Rajamaha Viharaya and the Nawagamuwa Devalaya, allowing guest to experience Sri Lankan culture, traditions and values.
Sanctuary Hill Nuwara Eliya is on the other hand is famed for its association with the Sinhala film industry. Located in the heart of tea country down Kelegala Road; the tranquil open spaces are filled with memorabilia from the Sinhala cinema. The spacious villa boasts of six charming rooms and lush gardens filled with blossoming flora and fauna, and a distinctly personal approach to service. The villa carries Sinhala cinema memorabilia throughout, including movie reels and video cameras, transporting you to the world of film.
Sanctuary Hill is the ideal location to completely lose yourself in the world of yesteryear; as you wander through the Island’s tea country and learn the intricate details that go into making the perfect cup of tea. Guest can also visit one of the many strawberry farms in the region and handpick strawberries for their indulgence.
