Wednesday, 11th October 2016, COLOMBO: Further strengthening its commitment to sustainability on all fronts, the iconic Galle Face Hotel is dedicating the month of October to focus on charitable activities. The heritage hotel has been at the forefront of sustainable tourism and is also closely engaged in other social responsibility and philanthropic projects. One of its main annual initiatives is to channel a portion of the proceeds from its popular Afternoon Tea to the Breast Cancer Awareness Charity, The Pink Ribbon Foundation. Once again this year, a portion of the per head cost for the Afternoon Tea rate will be contributed to the Pink Ribbon Foundation, which is an internationally operating charity organization aimed to create a global community to support breast cancer patients, survivors and their families all over the world. Pink Ribbon is dedicated to raising breast cancer awareness and funding for breast cancer research.
The Galle Face Hotel is supporting the foundation because this impactful awareness and fundraising campaign for breast cancer was established by Chefs Robbie and Russell and has managed to bring chefs together from the UAE, UK, Australia and Canada. The foundation has raised much-needed funds and awareness and support for those affected by breast cancer. The organization is linking up with chefs in other countries as well and the Galle Face Hotel is proud to come onboard this noble initiative as over time this initiative will be one of the biggest such projects initiated by the Food and Beverage (F&B) industries across the world.
Further, the Galle Face Hotel will be hosting a charity dinner at 1864 in contribution to Trail 2016. The Project which aims to raise USD 5 million to finance the expansion of the Karapitiya Teaching Hospital in Galle is a 670 km walk from Point Pedro in the North, to Dondra Head in the South over the course of 28 days, with the objective of honouring and helping those fighting cancer.
